Snow Milestone in South Africaa :)

Durban prequel – A Snowy venture:

Its been very long time since I ve blogged, it’s high time I pen down all the memories as it'll stay down the memory lane (sweet memories to cherish forever). Durban it was, our next vacation, we (me and 4 others) started planning bit late and missed out booking on sunset cruise which would have been a great icing to our Durban cake. Anyways things were all set and rest like lodge booking, big swing booking @ Moses Mabhidha stadium - 2010 FIFA World cup stadium were taken care. Few had to take Traffic Registration (driving permit) which was also done and everything was set. Work was also getting somber as we kept counting for the big day to come. Then came the big surprise. The day which all people in South Africa will never forget. A blissful day when snow came. After almost 20 years it had snowed across all parts of South Africa. Right from the moment it started till it melted people had a whale of it.

To startup, the morning was very cold and foggy and yet another day to slog out in office, did cooking for my roommates and left to office. The day started normally and after finished my daily meeting I came back to my cubicle. Then all of a sudden everyone started running down, I started wondering if there was any fire drill evacuation and just peeped out of the window.

The sight which I will never forget, small pecks of white snow fell all over and it was so beautiful that I couldn’t take my eyes off it. Immediately left to ground floor and my god it was snowing all over. I have seen snow in Nepal,Sikkim and Gangtok, but I have never felt it in real. And that’s when it started snowing heavily, absorbed every bit of snow, got white all over, taking pictures at every nook and corner. All the cars and trees were fully covered in snow and Johannesburg almost turned into beautiful Europe. Stood there for  1 hour in the freezing cold and engrossed the snowy Joburg.

Again it snowed heavily and once again went down and relived the snow memories. It was also the day before we had planned for the Durban trip. Just when everything was going so good, gotta bad news from traffic control saying all the roads to Durban were closed for few days accounting to heavy snowfall. Durban was around 620Kms from Johannesburg and we had planned to leave the same evening, so that we reach the by night. Disappointment started sinking in as everything was set and didn’t know what to do. As every twist had a turn, sun started peeping out and slowly the weather got better and things improved, we also got confirmation from hotel that some roads were open and we can travel. However we didn’t want to take the risk by driving in the night, so decided to start early morning at 4AM. Booked rental car Toyota Corolla and finally the Durban trip dream came to reality.

Day 1 roadtrip to Durban – The day started, all fresh and geared up. Initial 2 hours went along the highway roads and sun started peeping slowly. Reached a place named Harrismith from where we had to go along the curvatures of few mountains to reach Durban. That’s where our beautiful journey started. The plain roads were slowly bordered with snow and thick sleets of snow occupied everywhere. All were speechless absorbed to the beauty of snow. We took a halt on the way to capture these beautiful moments with sunrise. Honeydew light touching white wisps of snow, the sight which I may never see again.  No word to describe, nature has its own way to attract.

Stood on snow clad fields and took snaps worth a lifetime. Then continued our journey, and it only got better and better. Each turn we took a new beauty awaited ahead. Clear blue skies, snow covered mountains, frozen lakes, trees all around watta sight, breathtaking !!

More than words a few pictures would portray the amazing Switzerland or mindblowing Kashmir whatever we saw :)

Cheers all all my friends and relatives who made me blog it out and hoping to write more. Blog to be continued...
